Squeezing in some late shipping
season loads, the vessel
LEE H. TREGURTHA is setting up to take on a load of
taconite (iron ore) pellets on December 9, 2006. To help give
perspective of the size of these vessels and the ore dock, along the top
a line of hopper type train cars is visible.

During the winter
lay-up things have been a bit slow ( and cold ) in the Great
Lakes so I thought of posting something from Costa Rica. This
is a view of the shoreline at the entrance to Puerto Limon on
March 7, 2004. It was a windy day with large swells rocking
the ships loaded with bananas and pineapples. |

Algoeast stuck in the ice of the St. Clair River just
North of Algonac, MI on January 25, 2004. Recent below zero
temps followed by high winds breaking up Lake Huron's ice have
blocked passage with water levels in Lake St Clair dropping
quickly. |
