Here the Calcite II is moored for repairs during Winter lay-up on February 3, 2001.

She is seen with the Myron C. Taylor and the George A. Sloan to the right in the Sarnia, Ontario commercial harbor. All three of these vessels are a treat to see with their nostalgic "Laker" style. The Calcite II and the Myron C. Taylor are two of the oldest, true "Lakers" still operating on the Great Lakes. Both vessels were built in 1929. Two of the above photo's show the old style life boat and davit's along with the "classic" aft cabin area.

History: Launched  in 1929 as the William G. Clyde, she operated under that name until 1961. That year she was re-fitted as a self-unloader and renamed the Calcite II. In 1964 she was fitted with her current diesel powerplant. In 2001 the USS Great Lakes Fleet became the Lower Lakes Towing, LTD. and she is still in operation as the Maumee.
