History:
This
vessel is constructed to Ice Class 2 standards and was
manufactured by Collingwood Shipyards in Collingwood, Ontario.
With (2) 12 cylinder Fairbanks Morse diesel engines rated at
2,000 horsepower each, she operates at a cruising speed of 13
knots. A 350 horsepower bow thruster helps in her maneuvering.
Her heated cargo tanks have a petroleum product capacity
of 53,002 barrels or 6,435 tons.
She
operated as the Texaco Chief for Texaco Canada
Ltd., Toronto, Ontario from her maiden voyage in 1968 until
Nov.4, 1986. At that time Soconav Ltd.,
Montreal, Quebec purchased the Texaco fleet with an agreement
to transport Texaco products. She was then renamed the A.G.
Farquarson and continued to operate throughout the
Great Lakes, St. Lawrence, East Coast, and Arctic regions. In
1998 she was brought into the Algoma
Tankers Ltd. fleet and renamed as the Algonova. She still
operates the same routes but has spent much time recently in
the St. Clair River area. |
