Lighthouse History: Lake St. Clair is the shallowest of the lakes traversed by shipping traffic with an average depth of 12 feet. A hidden channel marked by buoys, runs from the St. Clair River (West end of Seaway Island) down to the Detroit River. In the center of Lake St. Clair this channel has a slight bend marked by a lighthouse with a flashing green lantern. The flash lasts for 1 1/2 seconds with a 3 1/2 second eclipse and a visibility range of 15 miles. This light also houses a fog bell that sounds one stroke on 15 second intervals.
