Sand Point

Escanaba, MI

Built :  1868

Type : Square/Integral

Status : Inactive - Museum

Location : Escanaba, MI

Height : 45 feet

Access : Car, with parking near the Light.

Directions : From the intersection of US-2/41 and M-35, turn East onto Ludington St. Follow this to the Light about 1.8 miles.

History of the Light : This Light is rather unique because her tower faces the town instead of the water she shined over. She served till 1939 when she was demolished. Her service almost ended 53 years earlier when in 1886 a fire almost destroyed her. The lighthouse is now fully restored as a museum by the Delta County Historical Society. She also holds the lantern from the Poverty Island Light.
