History of the Light : Built in 1904, this light still stands at the entrance to Michigan City. The large building under the light housed the boilers for the steam fog signal. An elevated catwalk leads out to the light for accessibility during rough weather. In 1960 the light was automated by the Coast Guard. It is still operating as an active Coast Guard aid to navigation.
