History of the Light : This light was first constructed in 1893. The light was completely reconstructed in 1908 as a conical tower. The new tower stands 26 feet from the base to the top of the ventilator ball. The base is 8 feet in diameter narrowing to 7 feet in diameter at the top. The tower is sheathed with 5/16 inch steel plate. A 10-sided lantern housing with a Fresnel lens and round watch room stands atop the tower. In 1932 the entire tower was raised to 42 feet by placing a 12 feet diameter base under the light. The lens has since been replaced with a modern plastic lens. In 1973, the lighthouse was automated. It is still an active aid to navigation.
