North Manitou Shoal

East of Manitou Island, MI

Built :  1935

Type : square, steel

Status : Active

Location : Between Manitou Island and Pyramid Point.

Height : 60 feet

Access : Boat, due East of Leland about 10 miles

History of the Light : Before its construction in 1935, a Lightship was stationed at this location since 1910. Two of the Lightships serving here were the vessel LV89 and the vessel LV103/WAL526.

The Lighthouse was constructed on a concrete crib to mark one of the many dangerous shoals around the Northeastern portion of Lake Michigan. It's construction is very similar to that of the Lansing Shoal Lighthouse. The Coast Guard automated the light in 1980.
