Manistee Pier Head

Manistee, MI

Built :  1927

Type : Conical, Steel

Status : Active

Location : Manistee, MI

Height : 39 feet

Access : Car, Parking near the Light with a short walk down the pier head. Once in Manistee, follow the North side of the Manistee River West to the Light.

History of the Light : The first Lighthouse built in Manistee was back in 1871, after only one year of service it was destroyed by fire. The present Light wasn't built till 1927. The catwalk leading out to the Light was originally made of wood, but was no match for Lake Michigan's waves and ice, and was replaced by a steel catwalk. The town of Manistee was restored to it's Victorian-era, and is now on the National Register. The award winning River walk along the Manistee River goes through town and out to the Lighthouse. Plenty of shops and eateries line the riverbanks along the River walk.
