Lighthouse History :  This lighthouse was one of the last offshore lights constructed within the Great Lakes. Lansing Shoal is a major threat to navigation within the Straits of Mackinac. This shoal was initially marked Lightship #55 in 1900 which was replaced with the permanent light. This was done because of problems with getting the lightship in position early enough and leaving it late enough within the shipping season.
