Gray's Reef

Location : Between Sturgeon Bay and Beaver Island, MI

Height : 55 feet

Access : Boat, about 20 miles East from Cross Village, MI.

History of the Light :  This light marks one of the many reefs and shoals around the North Eastern part of Lake Michigan. Originally Lightships took anchor here to warn ships of the danger beneath. Lightships number 57, 56 and 99 all played a very important roll here. In 1939 the Light you see today was constructed, and took the place of the Lightships. In 1976 this the Coast Guard automated her beacon.
