From Lake Huron this
river flows to the St. Clair Flats delta and into Lake St. Clair.
The St. Clair river is full of maritime interest, from the sailing
ships of the 1800's to the Rum Runners of prohibition to the
monstrous ships of today. Many ships, both foreign and domestic,
travel through this waterway making it one of the heaviest traveled
in the world. The river has a total outflow length of 27 miles. There are many parks and boardwalks along the river
shoreline where you can view these vessels. If you are unfamiliar
with these vessels? Here are a few ways to tell if one is foreign or
domestic: the domestic lake vessels (750 to 1,000 feet) are much
longer than the foreign vessels. Foreign vessels fly the flag of
their own country as well as the flag of the country they are
visiting.
