by glacial action during the last ice age 12,000 years ago, this is the
largest area of fresh water in the world. This seemingly endless natural
resource is not so. It's fragile ecosystem has been influenced more in
the last two centuries than all the previous years combined. The recent
Zebra Mussel infestation is a prime example. Brought in by Foreign
vessels from the Red Sea, Zebra Mussels have created many problems. One
of them is the almost extinction of many types of fresh water clams .
