Charlevoix Harbor is sponsored by the Michigan State Waterways Commission. As seen in these photograph's, the Pine River Channel connects Lake Michigan to Lake Charlevoix. The harbor is on your starboard side when entering from Lake Michigan. Lake Charlevoix is considered one of the most accommodating harbors in the Great Lakes region providing sheltered anchorage for vessels of any size.

There is a draw bridge with a 14 foot closed clearance. The bridge opens on every hour & half hour. From  10:00 p.m. till 6:00 a.m. it opens on demand requiring (1) long and (10 short blast.

A ferry runs out of Charlevoix taking supplies and automobiles to Beaver Island

Charlevoix was named after the French explorer Pierre Francois Xavier de Charlevoix who arrived in 1855. Prior to his arrival the Ottawa and Chippewa Indians sustained their unique culture with fishing and hunting of the abundant waters and forests of the area. In the late 1800's there were some battles between the Mormon's of Beaver Island and the Irish fisherman that settled in the Charlevoix area. This area became an exclusive retreat after the fighting had settled.

Charlevoix now offers visitors a beautiful place to relax and enjoy its beautiful unspoiled surroundings. The city still has many of it's old homes with many stores and historical sites to browse through. Magnificent white sandy beaches, towering forests and crystal clear waters allow you to quickly "get away from it all".

Some of the local activities are but not limited to: golfing, boat rentals, fishing charters, boat and dinner cruises, horseback riding, tennis and shuffle board, sailboat racing and pier fishing.
